Parc Asterix - Day 3

Day 3 - Parc Asterix

Plailly

Sunday, 23 September 2012
What a great nights sleep. Our room is so easy to relax in! And we seem to be sleeping reasonably in French time zone...I woke around 6.30 am which was great! We started with an incredible breakfast. Michael had chocolate chaud which he was pretty delighted about. Good coffee in those huge cups the French use for breakfast and then croissants, baguettes, fabulous jams, cold meat, and then something I thought was yoghurt but John said was a cheese. Whatever it was ..it was lovely!
The only day we could go to Parc Asterix was Sunday...at this time of the year it is only open weekends and I think is because the major customer base is domestic tourism..I.e. French. I don't think that the average international knows it exists. John certainly didn't and I think he and Dan would have loved it! Anyway...the reason we hadn't bought tickets in New Zealand ( and saved money) was because the weather forecast said Sunday was expected a storm. Well...no storm, mainly overcast and odd peeks from the sun - so off we went. It took us about 40 minutes.
This is a great Park. It's really large and with a great variety of roller coasters and about three 'wet' rides. The latest roller coaster the Oziris...located in 'Egypt' is amazing. All the 'big' coasters were impressive..not that we were into them. Call it is the jet lag...but we even avoided the wet ones which we normally love. We had planned to do them at the end of the day but when we got to that time, no one wanted to get wet and I think just being a little tired didn't help.
We did see Asterix and Obelix which was great. They have a Gaulish village with all their homes, and the chief and his wife were out and about as well. The good thing for us about this park on this day was that there was nothing we 'had' to do...so we could just hang out and enjoy it. We even went to a couple of shows...all in French...but we lived them. One was a dolphin show which was pretty spectacular and the other was all about Romans converting 'volunteers' for the army ( I think). Then the chiefs wife came along and beat them all up...but there was this ethereal skydiving scene which was pretty cool( not sure how it fitted into the story) but it was all fun to watch.
Michael bought a Dogmatix (called Isefix here) soft toy and we got him a really cool Asterix T shirt and some books. And I've got a great Obelix key ring.
We headed back to near our village and ended up at a a place called Auberge Marocaine and had the most amazing Moroccan food and wine. The waitress spoke pretty good English which is helpful when you are tired and she asked us all about the park...the clue was Michael's Asterix book which he was reading. Michael had a kids meal of meatballs and chips...there was mean to be a dessert but he was too tired. My tagine of lamb with apricots and almonds was absolutely gorgeous and Bruce had cous cous. His was amazing...a bowl of cous cous, the meat on the side (lamb) and then two side bowls of what I think we're chick peas and something else similar. THEN there was a big bowl of veges in a soup ..and he added what he needed. And the wine was pretty awesome too. I love these French Demi bottles...perfect when you only need a little or one in driving.
