Travelling to Chinon - Day 7

Crecy La Chapelle, Blois, Chinon

Thursday, 27 September 2012
Our last breakfast at the Moulin! Michael gave Bernard and Agnes big big hugs..I know they loved having him! They gave him a wee Tour de Eiffel key ring which he has attached to his jacket...and he is still wearing his Asterix T shirt (0ver a long sleeve). We bought some of their lovely jams for our time in self catering.
The weather wasn't great as we left and we made the mistake of not stopping at the Boulangerie...which cost us time looking for lunch later. On these longer journey's we end up using lots of toll roads but we had problems paying with credit card....so it's back to cash! The journey was taking longer than we had anticipated (probably not helped by getting on the road later rather than earlier..but who is in a hurry! So instead of heading to look at a Chateau we stopped at Blois. This is highlighted in our special drives book and it is really nice. Finding parking was easy in a car park building near the chateau and it's price was @ €2 which is great!
We wandered through this town and enjoyed the fact that the weather was very much improving. Bruce wanted to replace his case for his clip on sunglasses and we successfully managed to achieve that...in French! We spent some time down by the river Loire and up in the older part of the town. Then Bruce decided it was time to find a chocalatier (supposedly for Michael) and after having seen heaps of them earlier...there was none to be found. So two disappointed boys.
Then back on the road to Chinon. We were heading for Logis Saint Mexme. The e mail directions say DO NOT use your GPS...so it was back to old fashioned map reading and instructions. We now why! We found our way through the narrow streets to our lovely Chambre D'Hote tucked away on a back street. parking is pot luck (like everywhere in general) and we found something close. Our room is huge! We have a bedroom and a divided off lounge. The window opens to a cute little Juliet veranda looking over the (thankfully...no church bells) decommissioned church.
Michael has a separate room across the hallway so the only disadvantage is that his room locks from the outside and not inside...so we sleep with doors unlocked...so he can come to us and our bathroom if he needs. There is only one other room so it is lovely and intimate. There is a nice garden where one of our neighbours went to read. The front gate opens right onto the street...so you have to be careful. It was such a lovely night when we arrived that when we walked to a cafe for dinner...we chose to sit outside. In fact it was so gorgeous to see the various bars with seats literally in the middle of the road! What a contrast to the night before with the fire on in Crecy lc Chapelle!
