Travelling to the Dordorgne - Day 10

Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil

Sunday, 30 September 2012
Sadly we packed up to leave Logis Sain't Mexme.. Here is the web address! http://www.logis-saint-mexme.fr. We rate this place highly and would happily return.
The Boulangerie was closed so we headed in our way. Our GPS took us out of town over the bridge to another part of Chinon and luckily we found an open Boulangerie. The drive was picturesque for a while and took us around a very attractive walled town...don't ask me the name!
Then..lots of motorway! We stopped at an Aire (stopping place) for lunch. This was less picturesque than some. Some have cafe's, playgrounds and motels. This was really just a truck parking ground and there were lots of them. But it was fine to save money and time. As we started to come into the Dordogne things started getting prettier. We stopped at one pretty village to take photos of the church..again I don't know the name.
Them we arrived in Les Eyzies which is in the Vezere Valley. We found our holiday home and it is very cute. There are two apartments in the house. Maison Vert is all downstairs. We have La Maison a Cote which has the kitchen downstairs, then up the stairs is the lounge, bedrooms and bathroom. I think I would rather be upstairs than downstairs here. We have 'neighbours' but they left the next morning so there was no more creeping around upstairs.
Michael had a quick swim in the pool..yes..it was warm enough! Then we went for a stroll through the town. This area is all about prehistoric man and it is full of caves and near the spot where Cro Magnon (have I spelt that correctly?) was found. The cliffs are amazing! At night they are all lit up. I would imagine that this town is not so pleasant in the busyness of summer but I think it would still be pleasant if you can retreat to the peacefulness of our wee home just out of town. Dinner was at Au Coup de Silex. We went there because it was so well reviewed in Trip Advisor and it was a good referral. It's not expensive and really great food and we sat outside again. The meal started With the soup of the day which Bruce insisted was chicken, so didn't eat, but Michael and I really enjoyed. All the more for us! We just got a Demi picket of wine at €5 - you really can't go wrong at those prices.
Then a nice stroll home in the dark. And we can make coffee at home - yay!
