Dinosaurs, high wire courses and a bit more history- Day 11

Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil, La Roque-Gageac

The advantage of staying self catering is that we can be even slower in the morning! Michael and Bruce walked to the Boulangerie ( about 3 minutes away) and then given it had been a long time since Michael got a vote in what we did...we headed for the Dinosaur Park.. It was a beautiful day as we strolled through the bush and came across replica dinosaurs. Michael had a wee quiz to do so he attempted to learn something. They also had information about the flora and fauna in the area. Pretty tacky but OK for a kid. There was also a small troglodyte dwelling which was quite interesting. The exciting part was that they had a climbing activity which we signed up for. We did the junior (thank good ness Michael was to small for the adults..I don't think I would have liked the heights! It was heaps of fun and Michael and Bruce did the circuit a second time while I took photos. Michael of course enjoyed the flying foxes. Bruxe managed to hurt his ankle while coming in to land on one of the flying foxes which proved to be a bit of a drama later on - but he is fine.
It was then well past lunch and we were starving! Luckily we knew there was a village close buy as we hadn't brought a picnic with us. We could see the village church on the dinosaur walk. It proved to be one of the villages Bruce wanted to see. It was Saint Leon sur Vezere. One of the advantages of this time of the year is that parking is easy. The hard part is to get Bruce to move quickly through a cute village when we are hungry - that camera is always out! I saw a sign for a place serving dejeuner and followed it down a back alley to find a little store on the banks of the river, backing on to the church. We had cheeses and salads and a bottle of local wine; and some local artisan apple juice for Michael. It was outstanding especially after all that exercise and on such a nice day.
We then headed for La Roque Gigeac and passed though both ways Beynac - Cezenac which is a place we would live to explore but have not had time. In fact, if we returned I think that would be a nice base.
When we returned home Bruce's ankle was quite sore! He wasn't able to walk freely at all so we drove out to dinner at a local cheap and cheerful Brasserie de. La Marie. Poor Bruce!
