Saint Cirq LaPopie - Day 15

Saint-Cirq-Lapopie

Friday, 5 October 2012
What can I say about this breathtaking little village! I went hunting for bread to no avail but later on Nerida our owner called and she brought some up from the Depot du Pain which doubles as a salon de the. We learnt a lot more about the house - Henk told Bruce how upstairs was 5 rooms when they bought it so they have done a huge amount of alterations.
We sent the day pottering around the village which like so many is perched high up on a cliff. we were enjoying the incredibly clear and hot day (somewhere between 27 and 27 degrees). The weather patterns are unusual to us...it can take to very late morning, sometimes midday, to get he heat in the day - the morning can be downright chilly! Then the heat holds in the evenings even at this time of the year. Some nights we will go out and I'll take a cardi or jacket - only because it is cooler than during the day- and not use that cardi (but that could have something to do with the hill we have to walk back up after dinner here at Saint Cirq.
We visited a number of the little shops and artists and climbed up the old walls. We picked up another croissant for Michael's lunch and some patisserie and had a lovely relaxed lunch in the Villa. Our first 'at home' lunch in a long time!
More exploring in the afternoon - up and down hills. There are lots of little winding alleyways and paths and I'm sure if you followed them enough you would end up down at the river. I bought some jewellery - there are so many lovely artisans and of course the usually tacky imported pieces.
Dinner was at Lou Cantou right down the bottom of the village which was fine to walk to but it's a serious hill back up! It was time for the sensible flat sneakers and not the high heeled boots! We really enjoyed that meal and ate outside as we have done so often.
